10 Foods That Fight Stress

You may not always remember that it is very important to eat healthy foods every day. While it is not always possible to consume a completely balanced diet, you can lower your stress levels by deciding to eat stress-fighting foods.

Every person has different needs, so foods that alleviate stress for some people may not necessarily relieve your anxiety. Your best chance is to give them all a try and stick to the ones that work for you by incorporating them into your usual diet.

The following foods may assist you in eliminating some of your stress:

  1. Green leafy lettuce, such as Romaine lettuce, kale, collard greens, and spinach. You can find a lot of magnesium in leafy greens. The mineral magnesium helps your muscles to loosen up and relax.
  2. Fish Oil Supplements. Fish oil has essential fatty acids that contribute to the serotonin levels in your brain. Serotonin allows you to feel great mentally and also allows your brain to better deal with stress. You can either take fish oil supplements, or eat some salmon to obtain fish oil.
  3. Milk, yogurt and cheese. Experts sometimes refer to milk as a stress relieving food for many reasons. Milk contains protein that builds healthy bones and makes teeth stronger, and milk also contains calcium that helps promote better sleep and alleviates stress.
  4. Chocolate candy or beverages. A tiny chunk of dark chocolate candy every day can infuse your body with healthy antioxidants. When you eat chocolate, your body receives extra stimulation. Caffeine found in chocolate increases serotonin in the brain. It is perfectly fine to eat a little piece of chocolate once in a while!
  5. Drink some red wine. Numerous researchers think that drinking a single small glass of red wine every evening can contribute to a person’s well-being. However, one word of caution is that it is not always easy for you to limit the amount of wine you drink to a single glass. Wine is loaded with beneficial antioxidants and can temporarily lower blood pressure levels and assist you in relaxing.
  6. Oatmeal and oat bran cereals. If you eat oatmeal and other complex carbohydrates, your brain can develop higher levels of beneficial serotonin. Actually, you need to eat foods with carbohydrates in order to have a well-functioning brain. For this reason, you need to eat foods containing complex carbohydrates, such as oatmeal, whole wheat bread and brown rice.
  7. Lean meats that do not contain excessive amounts of fat. The protein in non-fatty meat is an aid to reducing stress in your body. You will find that eating turkey, chicken and fish furnish your brain with an ample supply of beneficial amino acids. Keep in mind that you should not consume fatty meats, as the fat can cause an interference with proper digestions of the amino acids.
  8. Coffee beverages. Caffeine does stimulate the brain, but you also take a risk if you drink too much coffee because an excessive amount of this beverage is not healthy. Nevertheless, drinking a small amount of coffee is acceptable. The caffeine in coffee gives your brain more stimulation that helps you to perform better at your job, and coffee can also help you to feel more energized and harmonious.
  9. Nuts and sunflower seeds. Nuts and seeds help your body to keep the blood sugar level steady. Additionally, nuts and seeds contain good amounts of B vitamins that help you to have more energy.
  10. Spinach, kale and collard greens. Spinach is a nutritionally packed powerhouse. This dark green veggie has numerous nutritional benefits. So as you see, spinach is an outstanding food for you!

Vitamins & Supplements: Naturally, the optimum way to receive vitamins and minerals is from the food you eat. However, it is not always possible to obtain every vitamin and mineral from food, so, at the very least, find a good multiple vitamin-mineral supplement that includes the basic nutrients your body needs.

You need to take vitamins because the food you eat does not provide your body with all of the nutrients it needs. Once you begin taking in these essential nutrients, you will be on the path to feeling healthier and stress-free.
